I bought this MPC 1000 in a real bad condition but cheap so I spent some time and love on getting it up to level. Most important was it had JJos2xl installed so with some new shiny parts and some soldering work I got it to where it is now. Alas though it has been sold on to good owner. This marked the end of my miles of cabling/patching and dealing with older 1990's kit for me. I had a huge clear out over the Summer and sold a lot of my older stuff for a move but I invested in an Akai Force. Working in a more streamlined way is far more appealing to me, I dont need the endless hardware headaches, although I kept my sound designing kit pieces like the Sherman FB2 and various pedals and other secret kit-bits ive picked up. The point is less is more for me. The Akai Force is incredible but if/when Akai finally drops the long awaited update , the arranger mode will do it for me tbh - then all will be good - and simpler.
This EP was more of a discovery session for me. This title track was actually three previously dropped ideas that I decided to mash together for a dub remix. The EP has more experimental styles for my take on Techno. Whilst I love to DJ and mix techno and minimal dub Techno sets, my style as a producer veers off on different course which is less dance-floor and more introspective and sound design orientated. My music tends to get 'oh it sounds very cinematic' which I am happy with but I am focussing on more uptempo rhythms going forward into my Autumn EP.
This track I recorded using an Octatrack back in 2018. The mix was finished using Logic audio but with all intent and purposes it was mainly recorded using just the Octatrack. The Onion EP is a four track debut which I tried to find the base of my sound using only hardware for recording. Using a Allen and Heath 24 and my trusty Sherman FB2 for added depth and grit. Mixed using Logic Pro with mastering mainly achieved with Shadow Hills MC & FabFilter ProQ3. I enjoy mastering but I made a pact with myself to get another pair of ears to master my future work.
